By the late sixties, approximately 5000 American helicopters were involved in the Vietnam
conflict. This included Hueys, Chinooks, Sky Cranes, Cobras, and Kiowas.
Heavy loads, such as artillery and even other light aircraft, could be transported by Chinooks and Sky Cranes. Chinooks also carried battalions to and from Vietnam combat zones.
Hueys were utility helicopters made by Bell Helicopter, and were used as Gunships and Nighthawks in the Vietnam War.
Dustoffs, also known as Medevacs, were Hueys used for medical evacuations from the Vietnam battlefield .
Cobra gunships were heavily armed helicopters used for attack and escort.
