Saigon was the capital of South Vietnam until April 1975, when Communist forces overran it. Then Saigon was renamed Ho Chi
 Minh City.

thirty-year goal of uniting the North and South under their control. Hanoi, the capital of North Vietnam, became the capital
of Vietnam. Copy© Furia 1999-2002 Updated March 6, 2002
